Great book, lots of color photos. Only a few things missing from it that make it not quite perfect. I would have liked a few more torque specs for some of the parts on the long block but overall a great book, and a must have for LS style motors. One note, when rebuilding an LS before installing into the vehicle, MAKE SURE YOU PRIME YOUR OILING SYSTEM through the oil galley ports while you can get to them. I had to get creative with my oil pressure sending unit once the engine was installed because I couldn't access the galley plugs.
This book is awesome. Its a fast read, but it is full of all the detail needed to completely build an engine from a bare block. Color pictures are excellent and everything is explained extremely well. I just finished my LQ4 6.0 build and used this book every step of the way. It has stock applications and everything you need to know to do a "built" engine. Very useful tool
Worthless. Unless you know nothing about engines. Only the simplest and basic of information in this book. It should be titled. Engines 101.
I am in the process of doing my first LS2 engine build and I bought this book to help familiarize myself with these engines. This book is full of very useful information about the different engines in the LS family and it is written in a way that is very easy to understand. I highly recommend this book to anyone that is looking to completely rebuild one of these engines, or even just wanting to do a few modifications.
I'm a college student so I've bought a ton of overpriced textbook. I saw this and was like what the hell it's only $20. When it came I fell in love, I've never been much of a reader but as a LSX guy I have yet to put the book down. Very informative and very helpful for anyone new or experienced mechanics.The book is a must for all my LS people.
I have bought both of the books from this writer. They are very well done. Lots of good pictures to go along with what is being explained in the text. I knew nothing about the ls motors when I started my project.(1955 chevy truck). I would highly recommend this book and the ls swap book. I am sure that there are some people that could find something to complain about but I feel that these 2 books have the most information on these motors that you can find in one place.
I would have liked more specific information about intake manifolds and camshaft interactions, but there might not have been a lot of that information available at the time of publication.
Excellent book that covered rebuilding and modifying both the Gen III and Gen IV blocks with suggestions on modifying areas for power and survival! Would have liked inclusion of GM part numbers for certain tools but that can be gained elsewhere. Gave the book a 5 Star rating as it was not directed towards the expert but to anyone with a general use of tools. Learned a lot from reading this book!
